What is innate wellbeing coaching?

I'm not going to lie, sometimes I struggle with articulating my coaching approach.
Life coaching can sound a bit intangible and doesn't (to me) do justice to the depth of the approach. If we continue with the 'not this' analogy (Neti Neti), it is neither this nor a coaching approach defined by goals, techniques, strategies and toolkits.
It is founded in the depth of human connection which allows an unravelling of the narratives of conditioning to uncover the core of our intrinsic 'okayness', or the seeing that our fundamental sense of wellbeing is never outside of us.
I've spent years in leadership roles in mental health, traversing the intersection between clinical dynamics and community-based peer support, as well as delving into a range of less traditional modalities navigating the meeting point between the relative and absolute - our gritty, messy humanness, held in a compassionate knowing of all that we are.
What remains at the centre is the power of compassionate, trusted spaces that feel psychologically safe and invite gentle, steadfast exploration into the source of behaviour and a gentle reconnaissance with our essence.
And to translate this into plain English, I thought it would be helpful to summarise some Frequently Asked Questions - also to assist me to explain it in relatable words, as opposed to the meandering prose I am prone to...
- What (even) is innate wellbeing?
It points to the unshakeable truth of us before all concepts and ideas (it sounds more woo woo than it is).
- What do you mean by an unshakeable truth?
Good question. It's the place before words. The space you are first thing in the morning before thoughts rush in. The gaps between noise. We might call it 'flow' but not in an abstract extraordinary way - simple presence, right here.
- Why would I choose this approach over maybe traditional therapy?
Well firstly, that's up to you. And it's not to deny the power of therapy, which I've benefited from for sure. But it tends to be a deeper dive below the assumptions of the identity we take ourselves to be, and the way we've reduced ourselves innocently through definition, labels and inevitable conditioning.
- What is a coaching conversation like?
It's organic, natural & pretty informal. You are guided to settle into a deeper space, beyond the frenetic nature of the intellect, to a rhythm we've often overlooked given the stresses & strains of modern life. It's not scary, it's compassionate & imbued with trust. The idea is that you feel held and can be open, honest and curious.
- How does it invite change?
Because it goes (way) below the surface to the source of our behavioural patterns, which continue to show up to inform our experience of life. We get curious about the source of behaviours, the stories we've been living out without question, and we settle into a more profound relationship with life.
- Will I have 'homework', strategies to apply or tools?
It's less about applying prescriptive tools and more about cultivating a curiosity and openness to life. You can certainly apply any understanding to your direct experience so it is entirely practical...it's not about following a theory but 'being' and showing up from a deeper understanding.
- How many sessions will I need?
As many as you choose. There's no obligation, but most clients notice shifts from hanging out in the heart space and want to get more curious.
- What impact does it have?
Well, the more open you are to self discovery & to exploring and challenging historic or current ways of showing up & perceiving, the more likely you are to experience shifts. I've witnessed pretty remarkable transformation in this space. It takes courage, compassion, accountability & a gentle capacity for enquiry
- Why do people come to my coaching conversations?
For many reasons, including but not limited to..
Periods of transition (midlife, career change, loss), anxiety, low mood, insomnia, imposter syndrome, overwhelm, a sense of disconnection with life, a yearning for more meaning, greater joy & peace.
- How do I make a booking?
Just pop me a DM. It's that simple.
